Nevada has been the underdog in every Las Vegas game since 1978, scoring 20 points and not beating UNLV in four attempts, but that changed in 2014. Nevada decided to upgrade to FBS after being forced to leave Big Sky, which did not accept non-football members at the time. They found a new home in the Big West Conference, where domestic rival UNVM had played since 1982 but would leave in 1996. That forced the Wolf Pack, formerly of the Pac-12, to try new approaches in Reno, Nevada.

The A's caused a stir among Wolf Pack fans in 2014 with their first trip to Las Vegas and a win over UNLV in their first game.

The Wolf Pack and the Boise State Broncos played another historic game, setting the school record for total points with 4,000 points in a game. The story that came out of the game was that the Nevada Wolf Pack outclassed Idaho State, the nation's second-best team at the time, 42-35. Even more impressive was that powerhouse Cal remained scoreless at Berkeley and the victory by Wolf Pack alumni and fans was remembered as one of the most memorable victories in Nevada school history.

The Wolf Pack finished the 2008 regular season tied for second place at the WAC with the Boise State Broncos having a record of 12-9 and a 9-5 record in conference play. In the Musselmen 'second season, the Pack won its first conference title in school history and earned an invitation to the NCAA tournament, losing 74-63 to Iowa State. The Wolf pack's victory ended a three-year streak of four consecutive NCAA tournaments for the team.

Nevada is still the only program to have won a conference title in the lower division since joining the subdivision. The victory secured the Wolf Pack's first-ever regular-season championship in its first season since joining the Nevada Division, which played in each of the first two seasons of the NCAA tournament, when only four teams were selected, but Nevada is still one of only two teams in school history to win conference titles in all three divisions since entering the subdivisions.

Sherfield, who is 6ft 3in, is already one of the best players in the Mountain West and was the glue and foundation of the Wolves pack. Nevada kicker Anthony Martinez scored on a 23-yard field goal to make it 24-24. In 1990, the Wolfpack won one of the most thrilling victories in school history against the Weber State, as many fans still think. As it stands, they recorded their first win against the Wildcats in club history, falling 35 points behind in the second half. Leading the field of fastest was senior wide receiver Brione Williams, a 200-pound apparatus from Las Vegas that was 1.80 feet long.

Nevada won the Big West Conference title in 1992 after beating Utah State in the final conference game of the season. Nevada and Boise State will meet for the first time in school history on Saturday, November 4 at 7 p.m. in Las Vegas. No 19 Ranked Nevada will face 16th-ranked Fresno State, which is on track to win over San Diego State and defeat San Jose State.

Nevada is the number 9 in men's basketball, which is the highest ranking Nevada has ever held. SDSU has won the Mountain West in each of the last three seasons, including the first two seasons since Nevada joined the Mountain West, in 2012-2013.

The Wolf Pack Men's Basketball team qualified for the NCAA tournament in March 2004, the first time in school history that it lost to Georgia Tech in the second round. The Wolfpack and Fresno State are scheduled to leave the WAC and play in the Mountain West Conference in 2012. On August 18, 2010, the University of Nevada was admitted to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the 2012-13 school year. In 2012, Nevada will either leave the West Coast Conference or the Mountain East Conference or enter a new conference. The move to the West will put Nevada in the same conference as its state rival for the first time since 1995.

The only remaining road trips are to New Mexico and Utah State, and Fresno State and Hawaii visit Reno.
